For years I edited car commercials, including Land Rover, Range Rover, Ford, Mercedes, Chevy, Toyota, Saturn, Citroen, and a bunch of motor bike spots, along with some totally awesome directors and some very good ones as well, winning Clios, Cannes, etc, etc,. There is even one campaign in MoMA! None of the great ones had a lick of CGI, they were simply well written and well directed. The only spots I did with hours and hours of CGI were dreadful. Basically the idea sucked, the director sucked and the only people to make money were the CGI artists who did an amazing job. Great advertising starts with simply great ideas and the courage of agency people to sell them to clients.
